What Your Donation Does

Provides financial support for treatment for those who cannot afford it.....
When you make a donation to the Institute for Children and Families, you are helping by providing financial support for those who need the healing services of the Institute but cannot afford them. The disorders that stem from childhood trauma require intensive, family-based interventions that are either not covered by private insurance or only partially covered. Since these interventions often must be sustained over long periods, this can result in significant financial hardship for families. Often, and particularly with lower-income families, this means that these types of problems are treated inadequately or not at all.

Secures specialized treatment others cannot provide......
When you make a donation to the Institute for Children and Families, you are helping individuals secure effective treatment for the effects of early childhood trauma that many other professionals cannot provide, either because of a lack appropriate training or access to appropriate materials. Furthermore, the Institute brings together practitioners in several fields including psychology, education, social work and medicine and relies upon the most up-to-date research as to the effects and treatments of childhood trauma.

Enables reduced-cost treatment options.....
When you make a donation to the Institute for Children and Families, you are helping provide psychotherapeutic services to children, adolescents and adults whose lives have been impacted by early trauma and its related effects on attachment. Psychotherapeutic services comprise a range of related activities including psychotherapy (for individuals, families and groups), assessment and evaluation, and developmental screening. Your support enables the Institute to offer these services for a low as $12 per hour for those who need our support.

Supports development of educational presentation and materials......
When you make a donation to the Institute for Children and Families, you are helping develop educational presentations and materials on issues of early trauma and its effects on attachment and development for parents (especially adoptive and foster parents), community members, and professionals in fields including education, child welfare and medicine. Your donation will help make presentations and distribute materials identifying children damaged by early experiences, encourage caregivers to initiate appropriate treatments and interventions, and more quickly begin the process of repairing each child's developmental deficits.

Encourages research on the effects of trauma and how to heal children.....
When you make a donation to the Institute for Children and Families, you are helping develop new assessment materials, research the efficacy of therapeutic models, and conduct other research that promises to help us understand and remediate the effects of childhood trauma. Children suffering such effects have often been considered "untreatable" due to their limited response to traditional methodologies, so further research is critically needed and your donation can help bring healing to more children.

Remember, Your donation is tax-deductible.
